A FEW THEORIES & IDEAS
By Jeff Fausch
INTRODUCTION
Is it possible to find hard evidence that will prove the existence of the paranormal? Are there scientists who are willing to take up the challenge? I will get back to those very important questions shortly.
I personally believe that the paranormal exists as I have experienced a number of unexplained happenings but I have come to the conclusion that I will never be able to prove the existence of the paranormal beyond a reasonable doubt within my lifetime. Of course knowing this does not deter me from investigating and researching the paranormal with an on-going passion.
In reality, individuals like me, paranormal researchers and organizations can only take the paranormal journey to a certain level. We are observers of the paranormal phenomena, who investigate, observe, document and collect data; we don't have the scientific knowledge to take it to the next level to find out how it actually all works.
Many scientists question whether consciousness can leave the body and continue to exist after the body dies. Science largely portrays the brain as a organic computer with nerve cells (neurons) and when the body dies, the life journey ends. Many scientists only look at the physical body, which has a used-by date. Where science has a problem is dealing with consciousness and the mind. It has no physical form or mass, yet it makes us who we are. It gives us feelings, awareness, personality and makes us all independent individuals. Another question science has a problem addressing is if the consciousness/mind leaves the body after death, where does it go? Many scientist believe we just die and the brain has a mass hallucination as we die to give the impression of leaving the body. But the circumstantial evidence tells us something does happen after death, whether it is a part of the natural order of things with in the universe is unknown. The one important question that has never be answered is how does consciousness interact with time and matter. Does this mean physics is incomplete?
But there are scientists who dare to look outside the square. The area of science that has taken up the challenge, to tread were most scientists don't dare to go is "Quantum Physics". While Newton-ism physics describes the way matter interacts with matter. i.e. gravity, velocity etc. Quantum Physics is the physics of the very small.
You may be thinking what does this have to do with the paranormal? This, I believe, could be the scientific means of discovering and unlocking the mysteries of the paranormal, multiple universes and even the question of what happens after death using very advanced physics. I will be honest, I have a very hard time grasping how Quantum Physics works with my high school science but I do understand what Quantum Physics trying to accomplish. I do believe in the future that the paranormal could become a part of mainstream science and we will be able to remove the "para" out of paranormal so it becomes "normal".
While doing my research, I came across a very interesting documentary titled "Life After Death". A professor, Brian Josephson, a Noble prize winner for the University of Cambridge, stated that an interesting analogy while being interviewed, he said, "If something unorthodox comes up scientists ignore it...they then say it is nonsense....and then they say it is obvious. I believe in the future, the paranormal might become excepted science if some of the Quantum Physics speculations are found to be correct and then it will become "obvious"...

WHAT IS QUANTUM PHYSICS?
I have to admit, I find it hard to get my head around Quantum Physics with my limited knowledge of physics but have a basic understanding of the very basics. Quantum Physics takes over from Newtonian Physics when its starts to breakdown. It looks at the incredibly small. Newtonian Physics can describe the orbit of planets or the energy transformation of physical objects and it can land a spacecraft on a distant planet with pin point accuracy. Quantum Physics describes how electrons surround the nucleus of atoms and other subatomic particles. Quantum Physics even tries to describe the particles that make these particles.
It is now said that the model of the atom that was taught at high schools is basically wrong. Electrons don't orbit like a planet, they are said to be blurred clouds of probabilities around a nucleus. Then there are protons and neutrons, they are each made up of three types of quarks and their gluon, which are even smaller particles that hold all these things together and when they all collect together they form glue balls. This is why Quantum Physics needs such complex mathematics to explain the behavior of such small particles.
The behavior such particles are very strange as they are filled with Quantum probabilities and organized chaos. As an example using Newtonian Physics to find the exact position and velocity of an electron is very difficult because any attempt to see it involves bouncing particles of it. The problem of doing this is you have just changed the velocity of the electron, so the data becomes useless or inconclusive. What Quantum Physics does is give us statistical probability of the electron location at any one-moment by learning how the particles will act. This may sound complex, with very little to do with the paranormal, but it does give us clues to the fundamental nature of the universe, further more it describes the universe as being very different to world we see.

TO DISCOVER THE PARANORMAL YOU NEED
TO UNDERSTAND THE UNIVERSE
In pre-modern science, the time of Galileo, Copernicus and Newton the universe was thought to be a gigantic clockwork tipped with a spot making each planet circling in the solar system around the sun. Matter followed exact rules of interior moment called "Equation of Movement". It was thought that time itself was eternal and unmeasurable. Back then, the universe was a stable place with nothing left to the imagination. The universe was like a giant mechanical machine ticking away for eternity. This was the thinking by the majority of scientific community until the late 19th century.
With the 20th century came Einstein, who gave us theories of relativity and much of the clockwork mechanical thinking changed forever. Space proved not to be infinite as thought and did not extend forever as thought by pre-modern science. Instead time and space where found to be joined together, a concept called "Space Time". Matter was also seen in a new light, it was produced by the universe itself as a knot in the fabric of time-space. It could bend space and curve time. This enabled scientists to study how the universe could have begun. The speed of light and the concept of time-space made it possible for Cosmologists to question just what could have occurred when time itself began and all space in the universe was smaller than a dot on a page. This, of course, is the Big-Bang theory.
With the relativity theory, there were still gaps in the knowledge concerning matter and space-time. What happened before the Big-Bang and how did it come to be? The problem is still with us today. With the discovery of Quantum Physics that governs the behaviour of the atom and subatomic matter new observations were able to made to help us understand how the universe worked. A major problem with bringing Quantum Physics together with relativity is that no one has worked out how to do it. Some of the theories sound bizarre and there are still scientists who want to bring back the mechanical universe and are struggling with these new theories.

PARALLEL UNIVERSE THEORY
One of the theories that has come out of Quantum Physics is the "Parallel Theory". When Quantum Physics and general relativity are put together the mathematical theories show that parallel universes are not science fiction but theoretically possibilities. So what is a Parallel Universe? The theory goes like this; the universe we live in is a region of space and time containing matter, galaxies, planets and living organisms. A parallel universe is very similar or could even be a duplicate of our own universe. This could even mean human beings. These humans could actually be duplicates of us and who are connected to ourselves the mechanisms only explainable through Quantum Physics. It is thought that there could be many universes that exist side by side with our universe and even occupying the same space as our own universe in some "ghosty" manner. It has even been said that parallel universes may be extremely close to us, perhaps only atomic dimensions away, but in a higher dimension of space called "Super-Space" by physicists. Some scientist believe that these parallel universes are so close together that the gravity is a weak signal leaking out of another universe into ours.
For many years, the thought of multiple universes was the realm of the science fiction writers. But now it appears that parallel universes really do exist (in theory anyway) and they are much stranger than even the science fiction writers could ever imagine.
It started when the super-string theory, hyperspace and dark matter made physicists realize that the three dimensions are actually eleven dimensions. Scientists came to the conclusion that our universe was only a bubble among an infinite number of other membranous bubbles which ripple and wobble through the eleventh dimension. This brought up a very scary scenario. Imagine what would happen if two such bubbles touched. Neil Turok from Cambridge, Burt Ovurt from the University of Pennsylvania and Paul Steinhardt believe that it has already happened. They believe that the Big-Bang that created our universe was the effect of two bubbles touching. This theory has turned the scientific community on its head. It may be that the Big-Bang wasn't really the beginning of everything after all. This would mean time and space all existed before it. This theory implies that the Big-Bang happens all the time.
This extraordinary theory about the origin of our universe has one alarming implication. If a collision started our universe, could it all happen again? Anything could be possible in this extra-dimensional universe. What if there is another universe heading towards us? What happens if there was to be another collision?

STRING THEORY
Another theory that has come out of Quantum Physics is the "String Theory", a quantum theory of gravity. I will endevour to describe the very basics of the theory, well the bits that I can understand as it is so complex. String Theory attempts to explain the universe in terms of "Tiny Stings" that represent the fundamental particles postulated by the standard theory of particle physics; Bosons, which are the force carrying - particles like Protons and Muons particles that make up matter as a electron. These strings are Quantum entities that exist in different states. They can be closed or open-ended and can have different modes of vibration, similar to how a guitar string vibrates differently on how and when you pluck it. The different types of vibrational states of the strings correspond to the particles. To account for these strings, a theory called "Super String Theory" proposed that space and time exist in different dimensions; six of the ten dimensions are compacted. They are curled up on themselves on a very small scale the other four dimensions consist of what is traditionally thought of as space and time.
The most current theory called M-theory is referred to as the "Second Super-String Revolution". It has proposed an eleventh dimensional space that consists of objects with multiple dimensions called P-branes. Another string theory gives us a twenty-six dimension space. Another theory gives us a five-dimensional space to describe the universe. Over the past 30 years the string theory as had many forms. When it reaches its final form, physicists expects it to include symmetry and multiple dimensions and might not look like anything proposed yet.
So is there credible evidence other than complex mathematics to prove the existence of multiple dimensions or parallel universes? In Kentucky (USA) there is a particle accelerator which is experimenting with hydrogen atoms. They have built a 10km tube which surrounds the whole complex. In this tube atoms are fired into both ends of the tube and the atoms sped around at incredible speeds until they hit each other. Many of these atoms hit each other with very little happening. But on rare occasions they hit head on, burst and turned into something else, releasing a "Graviton". For some reason, the Graviton could not be found because it was thought that the Graviton slipped into another dimension. These observations are now taken very seriously by scientists and appears to fit in with the String hypothesis.

SUPER-POSITION
This is another theory that comes out of Quantum Physics. We think of a particle as a solid thing that exists in the psychical world we live in. But is it? The theory of "Super-Position" tells us that our universe is not as straight forward as we thought. This is how it basically works. An object any object is spread out as waves of possible locations. The object is in all locations at the same time, the instance you check out the object it snaps into one of those possibilities or locations.
Another way of interpreting this theory is; imagine that the world to be potential strips of reality until we choose one of these realities then all other realities collapse into one that has been chosen. What this means is that an object can be in two or more locations at the same time. This may sound like something straight out of science-fiction but there are laboratories in the USA that have conducted experiments were a single object has been seen by the naked eye in two places at the same time. Scientists have actually photographed the same object in more than one location at the same time. It appears that science fiction is now becoming a reality. Some might even say it sounds a bit paranormal.

GHOSTS & SCIENCE
I have put up a number of scientific theories on how science is now starting to view the universe or may I say universes. It appears the universe might even be stranger than the paranormal. I personally believe that paranormal phenomena is apart of the universe just like "black holes, Dark-Matter & Dark-Energy". Take Dark Matter and Energy it exists but scientist don't really know what it is or how it behaves. It is invisible yet takes up most of the universe and holds it all together. That sounds very much like the paranormal phenomena, researchers believe that it exists but don't really know what it is or how it behaves. It is invisible and take up much of the universe or universes.
Is it possible that paranormal phenomena is connected to parallel universes or worlds which exist side by side with our own world. Some paranormal researchers are starting to look at Quantum Physics for answers that could explain how the paranormal works and even what constitutes a ghost.
Lets start at the quantum level, all sub-particles that make up a atom can be broken down into quarks, which have a wave length nature, this means all matter is composed of waves. Waves have different characteristics such as amplitudes, polarization and frequency. This means universes composed of the same matter of waves that create universes, other frequency waves create other universes that co-exist with each other, forming parallel universes that can exist in the same space. There is a theory that suggests that there may be fluctuations in the frequencies that may cause matter waves from one universe to match in with another universe, thus causing parts of a universe becoming real in another universe. If a part of one such frequency matches, including inhabitants or location of the universe in question, this could be interpreted as a ghost or a residual haunting.
So, in theory, what this could imply is that beings, entities, ghosts, apparitions - whatever we want to call them - may have developed methods or it could be an accidental altering of the wave frequency to match our world for a short periods of time, interacting within it. Depending how strong the match is with our world would depend on the apparition being able to interact. For instance, if it was a near perfect match, the apparition could be as real as any living person but if the match was less perfect, it could be shadowy or not visible at all.
Here is another interesting theory. If time itself was related to parallel worlds, time itself might become affected by a gradual and steady increase in frequency of matter waves. This could separate each intake of time into its own parallel world. What this theory implies is that parallel universes are affecting this universe at different instances in time. Time would then be the affect of matter waves in our own body that are steadily changing and putting us into a parallel universe one after another. What this theory implies is that so called spirit worlds are parallel universes which are displaced in time.

CONSCIOUSNESS & QUANTUM PSYCHICS
While doing my research on Near Death Experiences (NDE) I came across a very interesting article. It was an interview with Dr. Fred Alan Wolf. He earned a PHD in theoretical physics from U.L.C.A. He writes and lectures around the world and conducts research on relationship of Quantum Psychics to consciousness. He taught at the University of London, University of Paris and Hahn-Meitner Institute of Nuclear Physics of Berlin. In this article, he looks at life after death using Quantum theory and, I have to admit, I find his research fascinating and thought provoking.
Dr. Wolf has a theory on "Absolute Vacuum of Space" He tells us the static hushing noise from the television screen between channels is noise produced by electronics inside the television receiver is the amplified sound of "vacuum of space". Many Quantum Physics including Dr. Wolf believe that the entire universe and the creation of everything was created out of "absolute nothingness of space". It appears that this vacuum of nothingness is intelligent, active and has consciousness. He has theorized that all concsiousness preceeds from and is a part of this vacuum. He admits that the notion that "something can be created from nothing" is very difficult for the mind to grasp.
He theorised that consciousness emerged at the same time that all matter in the universe was created around the time of the Big-Bang approximately 15 billion years ago. According to currant scientific model of the universe "consciousness" will continue to exist for another 20 billion, billion years until that time refered by scientists as the "big-crunch".

Dr. Wolf also theorized that the "light at the end of the tunnel" sometimes occurring in Near Death Experiences (NDE) and a the point of death itself. He explains that all material objects cannot travel faster than the speed of light but does believe that it might be possible that consciousness, which is non-physical and therefore not confined by the movements in the material world can travel faster than the speed of light. Traveling at the speed of light is called "Superuminal Speed". Dr Wolf theories that it is possible that at the time of death or during a NDE it may be possible to transition from the material world that operates at speeds less than the speed of light to a world that can operate faster than the speed of light, the so called "Superuminal Speed". In that transfer, a tunneling effect may occur in such a way that it appears to take place in what astrophysics call a "black hole". At the Superuminal Speed of the consciousness, we go beyond the time and space as we experience it in the physical giving us the sensation of traveling through a long tunnel. There is then the phenomenon of being able to move backwards and forward through space and time. People who have a experienced Near Death Experience describe this type of phenomenon. Dr. Wolf believes that people are very likely experiencing are windows into a kind of space/time dimension of reality.
Dr. Wolf does not see consciousness as a product of matter, it's the other way around. He sees matter as an epiphenomenon of consciousness. The matter world has evolved from the "vacuum of space" the home of consciousness.
To finish of this section, James Authur Ray, a philosopher made an interesting quote when being interviewed on a documentary "What the Bleep do you know". He said, "what do we know about energy; you go to a physicist and ask who created the world, he or she would say "Energy". It can never be created or destroyed. It has always been and always be. It is moving through form, into and out of form. If you asked a philologian who created the world he or she would say "God"; He/she can never be created or destroyed. He/she has always been and always be. He/she is moving through form, into form and out of form.
James Ray appears to be saying science and religion are on the same track that science and God are one in the same but they are coming from different directions.
He finished of by saying, "All humans are spiritual beings and that we are all an energy fields, walking around in a meat suit, operating in a larger energy field.
